Nine years after former governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim left office, it has been revealed that reasons why he didn’t get a second tenure was because Imo people misunderstood the intention of his administration.

A former speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Goodluck Nanah Opiah made this known last weekend.

Speaking during the traditional wedding of his daughter, Cynthia Opiah at his Abaekeke Egbema country home while acknowledging presence of guests, Opiah disclosed that the vision of Ohakim was completely misconstrue.

Opiah who was also the Speaker of the State legislature when Ohakim was incharge of the State stated that “His Excellency Ikedi Ohakim had a good vision but was misunderstood. It was unfortunate for us in the state.
The exco and state legislature had symbiotic relationship that worked in partnership for the good of the state. When it was time to give him another chance, Imo people thought otherwise because they wrongly viewed his vision.

According to Opiah who represented Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta, Oru West Federal constituency, the reward Imolites got for that mistake was electing a disaster as a successor in 2011 which resulted to an unfortunate eight year misrule “Imolites took a wrong message about Ohakim and suffered thereafter for it”.

Opiah used the opportunity to highlight the relationship between Ohakim and the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma adding that both have been working together. Remember Ohakim was Uzodinma’s running mate in 2003 election and have continued to relate well.
Special Adviser and  Cordinator for Oil and Gas to Imo State Governor, asked people of the state to continue to have hope on Governor Uzodinma stating that the APC Governor have come to recover, reconstruct and rehabilitate the state.

The event witnessed the presence of the Deputy Governor, Prof Placid Njoku, former Governor Ikedi Ohakim, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Chiji Collins and Rt Hon Chyna Iwuanyanwu respectively, including other profiled dignitaries.
