Ebonyi State Governor, Chief David Umahi has ordered immediate shut down of a private hospital that managed acovid-19 patient who lost his life in the state.

The Governor who gave the order in a meeting with front line health workers and team from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Abakaliki also revoked the certificate of occupancy of the hospital.

The governor who was visibly unhappy over the loss of life through poor management of the Covid-19 patient also directed that the owner of the hospital be arrested and prosecuted.

His words;”The cases we lost are cases being managed by private hospitals. I hope that commissioner for health has sealed the hospital where somebody died of covid-19?. It has to be sealed,and the hospital owner be prosecuted in accordance with our covid-19 law. It should be sealed permanently and certificate of occupancy revoked to serve as deterrent to other hospitals”.

The governor who debunked reports the COVID-19 patient who died in the state is a judicial official said that such report was false as no member of the state judiciary died on covid-19.

“No body died in the judiciary. All we did was that we reported one death as a result of covid-19 case”.

He warned that such impression should be corrected to avoid unnecessary panic.

Meanwhile,the leader of the Nigeria Center for disease control(NCDC) Rapid response team in Ebonyi state,Dr Sophia Usuwa, commissioner for Health Ebonyi state,Dr.Daniel Umezurike,Chief Medical Director,Dr.Onwe Emeka Oga,in their remarks,assured that the team would continue to work assiduously to their health mandate to scale down cases of covid-19 in the state.
