Owerri, the Imo State capital, will on Friday 20, 2019 showcase its literary talent with the long awaited homecoming of Nnamdi Oguike, award winning writer and author of the book Do Not Say It’s Not Your Country.
Oguike, who is winner of the 2019 Miles Morland Scholarship for African Writing, will be in Owerri as part of end of year activities of Ngiga Book Club, a literary and cultural movement championed by Imo State youths.
As announced by executives of the literary club, the event which comes up on Friday, December 20, 2019 at Posh and Candy, World Bank, New Owerri, Imo State is open to writers, literary enthusiasts, and the general public.
In his reaction to the announcement, Oguike, who grew up in Owerri, confirmed his readiness for the which he considers an emotional homecoming to the city that raised him. He will be reading from his highly acclaimed debut Do Not Say It’s Not Your Country, published by Owerri based Griots Lounge Publishing. Also, there shall be interactive session and Q-and-A with the audience.
In his reaction, a law student and co-founder of Ngiga Book Club, Ebube Ugorji, described the visit as a major achievement for the budding literary society. He went further to liken it to the beginning of a literary renaissance in Imo State, expressing confidence that the reading will be a worthwhile rendezvous for everyone to participate in.
