A World Bank Assisted erosion emergency control Agency, New Map, is set to begin rehabilitation of Elemele road in Ikeduru Local Government Area and other major roads in the State.
The State Project Coordinator, Engr Victor Anuenyiagu, who disclosed this last week, stated that the level of bad roads across the State is alarming, which has prompted the Agency to swiftly sung into action to start rehabilitating of roads, drainage system and control erosion that is about cutting some communities away from others.
He said the Agency’s project is geared towards addressing issues, problem of sustainable management water shade approach, pointing out that, they solve the problem pertaining gully erosion, flooding, through a wholistic approach that includes, identifying sources that contribute to the problem.
He added that the Agency is into educating local sand mines, on some other alternative livelihood sources to stop the practices that promotes erosion, stating that such situation the Agency provides grant to them and put them together in cooperative with one common idealogy and fund them.
Anuenyiagu, posited that the Agency also is into Enlightenment and capacity development, such that will bring to the knowledge of the people on various preventive measures, according to him, most of the problem of Land degradation are mostly man made, 97% is purely man made..
The State Project Coordinator, furthermore noted that the Agency is involve in every practice that promotes sustainable land management, and promotes bio-remediation, Planting of Trees among others, adding that whatever thing that will minimize and reduce the problem of flooding and erosion, are their utmost concern.
Moreso, he informed that the Agency has a particular define method, which distinguished them as a multi sectoral based project, because according to him, they try to bring in several sectors into play.
Also, he noted that they collaborates with Local Government Areas, Ministry of Lands, Ministry of Information, State Emergency Agency and National Emergency Agency, and Communities which according to him are the primary owners of any project cited in any place, which he said at the end of the project they are handed over.
