Members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State yesterday, protested to the state police headquarters over the recent murder of their chieftain, Ifeanyi Odoemena. Okorocha The APC members led by their chairman, Tony Anaelechi in a statement co-signed with other APC leaders in the area, raised an alarm that they decided to protest after recalling similar incidents that took place in the local government. Odoemena was murdered in his house Tuesday night, hours after he had concluded a political meeting. He was ward chairman of Logara/Umuohiagu in Ngor Okpala LGA. They also alleged that the killing was politically sponsored, adding that “many hoodlums are still parading the entire landscape of Ngor Okpala with the aid of some security agents assigned to certain politicians in Ngor Okpala. “While we roundly condemn this senseless and henious murder of Mr. Odoemena right in front of his wife and kid, it is our considered opinion that his assassination has a colouration of a politically motivated and sponsored killing,” Anaelechi alleged. Police Meanwhile, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG, Micheal Ogbizi, in charge of the 2019 Presidential/National Assembly elections in the Southeast zone, yesterday said that killers of Ifeanyi Ozoemena were wearing fake Army uniforms. The DIG alongside other heads of the various security agencies revealed this in Owerri when he visited the Imo State Police Headquarters to resume work ahead of the 2019 elections. His statement was coming days after, four out of the five persons suspected to be fake Army officers were paraded at the Imo State Police headquarters. Ogbizi, who is also the DIG Zone 9, also warned that the police were prepared to deal decisively with anybody who tampered with the process of the election. He said: “We have gotten the report of fake security officials and politicians using thugs to snatch ballot boxes. The directive given to us is that we should not allow such thing to happen. On the arrest of the fake Army officers, investigation is still ongoing. “Let me say this: those who killed the APC ward chairman in Imo State were wearing fake army uniform.Their plan is to instill fear in the voters so that people will not come out to vote. “We have called on INEC to do their work and that every security they need will be provided. We are assuring them of the safety of their families and the voters.
