Madumere Bags Historical Society Award

The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere was yesterday conferred with highest Historical Society of Nigeria Award called “History Shield of Excellence” at the University of Port-Harcourt, Rivers State this afternoon.

The President of the Historical Society of Nigeria, Professor Christopher Ogbogbo who gave account of activities of the body so far also informed his audience the effort of the Society in ensuring that history is incorporated into the academic curricula  of every level of education stressed the need for history in planning and national development.

He said the ward is to honour the contributions of distinguished personalities who have contributed immensely to the  promotion the study of history.

The History Society’s History Shield of Excellence Award alongside Deputy Governor of Imo State was conferred on two other personalities who are His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike and the oldest serving Historian in the body, Professor Ike Alagwa.

Prince Madumere was represented by his Adviser on Public Affairs, Dr. Ifeanyi Ekenasi and Special Assistant on Media Uche Onwuchekwa.

Speaking through Dr. Ekenasi, Prince Madumere thanked the Historical Society of Nigeria for the honour.

He said he is a lover of history and that Owelle Rochas Okorocha led Government in appreciation of the importance of History is doing all within its power to ensure that history is enshrined in the academic curricula  of the State Education system.

He said that history has its role in every course of study and that a life without history is a life lost because without record, no progress can be made no good policy can be formulated.

He therefore charged the body to join hands to expand the scope of discourse in the present effort to building a new Nigeria.
