Magnificent in style, in culture… in heritage, … and education. The SUG Vice President of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education (A.I.F.C.E), Comrade Vera Ugbe yesterday hosted what I would describe as the biggest, campus cultural festival/seminar Owerri, the capital city of Imo State has ever witnessed.
The event which was tagged “Africana 2012” with the theme ‘Our Culture, Our Heritage, Our Pride’, drew personalities from far and wide to appreciate the velour and splendor of the great leader.
Dignitaries at the event include; the Dean, Student Affairs A.I.F.C.E, Rev. Fr Dr Nwachukwu; a former SUG president and the incumbent SUG President, Comrade Okemini, Comrade Nwadike Orient (Aspiring), the school Provost, Bursar and other senior lecturers of the institution. Others include guest from the government house whose names were not gotten for some reasons.
Speaking to O’town Gist, Sen Ojo Ikedi, (Represneting Music constituency as well as Secretary on hall government) who is a member of the event planning committee, said “this event is wonderful, it takes us back to our culture, which is where we begun. Our culture is our culture and our heritage from God. It is left for us to take it up as Igbos, as Nigerians, as Africans and as student in the world”
Amongst lectures and speeches from the host and guests, were cultural dance groups, cooking competition on local dishes, African Hair Style Competition as well as a fashion show to adorn the event which in the end achieved the Africana 2012 concept.
Igodo One Voice Cultural Assembly and the Dream Crew of Federal University of Technology Owerri, were among the groups that performed at the event.
For lack of opportunity, O’town Gist could not speak with Comrade Vera and we have a date for an exclusive interview lined up with the SUG Vice President.
