Students of Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) who are residing at Eziobodo, a neighbouring village to Ihiagwa, Tuesday, screamed a very loud UP NEPA!!!! Even though it is no longer news that Power Holding Company Nigeria (PHCN) has taken over the Nigerian electricity production and distribution company.

You cannot blame the students who had previous lived their lives for three months in darkness, as if they were in a vampire movie.

One of the students who spoke to us said “I am very very happy to witness this; most of us are planning on relocating as soon as our rent expires, while some others had left their apartments for other areas with moderate power supply. It’s a good thing to have electricity back here and I hope it remains constant”

The power outage, we learnt was caused by damaged pole as a result of a torrential rainfall in the area and efforts by residents of the area proved abortive until Tuesday.

Imagine life without electricity for three months as a student in one of the best universities in the country, where you must work hard to earn your result.

The other side of the story is that as the students and other residents of Eziobodo were screaming for the days of admiring the bright electric bulbs of their neigbours are over, I wondered if we could ever have such noise should Nigeria win the World Cup.

As it is said that one man’s food is another man’s poison, business men dealing on petrol are frowning because the days of compulsory sales are over.

No more compulsory fuel for the generator, no more dark and noisy nights filled with smoke and sounds of both good and bad generators.

Candle sellers will not be left out too, but it is a good thing. I want to join the students and shout.

Up NEPA!!!!!!!!!!!
