Nigerians living in the United Kingdom with pending passport applications are set to receive support from a special intervention team deployed by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to improve passport processing and reduce delays.

The Federal Government has sent a dedicated Passport Intervention Team from NIS headquarters to the UK as part of efforts to streamline passport applications for Nigerians in the diaspora.

The deployment was directed by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap. The team is scheduled to arrive in the UK on Monday, August 10, 2026.

During the exercise, the team will work with the Nigerian High Commission to process pending applications, enrol new applicants and handle passport renewal requests.

The NIS said the intervention team would also visit selected cities across the UK to conduct passport enrolment and processing, allowing applicants outside London to access the service.

The exercise is open to Nigerians with pending passport applications, those applying for new passports and holders whose passports have less than one year before expiry and wish to renew them. Applicants are required to bring their completed application forms and proof of payment for enrolment.

However, the NIS warned applicants not to visit any venue until the official timetable has been released. Details of the cities, dates, venues and enrolment times will be announced separately through the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission in the UK.

For enquiries or complaints relating to the intervention, the NIS provided passport.london@immigration.gov.ng and a WhatsApp-only contact line, +234 916 087 8000.

The service also said its digital passport application platforms, including the Contactless Passport Application System, would continue operating throughout the intervention. Existing home delivery services will also remain available.

The NIS said the exercise forms part of its wider commitment to improving passport services and providing faster, more transparent and responsive support to Nigerians both within the country and abroad.
