Nollywood actress Peggy Ovire has publicly confirmed that her marriage to fellow actor Freddie Leonard has broken down, revealing that she is pursuing a divorce and accusing him of failing to appear in court proceedings.
The actress made the disclosure through a series of social media posts, ending months of speculation surrounding the state of their marriage. Her latest comments came after photos surfaced online showing Freddie Leonard in the company of another woman.
In the posts, Ovire called on her husband to attend a scheduled customary court hearing fixed for June 23, alleging that he had previously failed to appear despite being officially served with divorce papers.
“Married woman o, shameless lots, please don’t avoid coming to customary court June 23rd for the second time,” she wrote.
“You said you wanted a divorce, yet you didn’t show up when you were served. Please don’t avoid customary court for the second time on June 23rd because I’m coming with receipts and let’s make this divorce done and dusted. So both of you can finally be together.”
The actress also accused Leonard of having an affair with a married woman who, according to her, has four children. She claimed that although he initially denied any romantic involvement, evidence later emerged that convinced her otherwise.
In another lengthy post, Ovire recounted what she described as discovering repeated acts of infidelity after marriage. She alleged that her husband maintained a close relationship with the woman, meeting her privately in apartments and hotels while publicly insisting they were only friends.
The actress further claimed that the woman attended their wedding and that she had no reason to suspect anything at the time because she trusted her husband’s explanations.
According to Ovire, the situation became more troubling when she allegedly discovered messages and other evidence suggesting the relationship between Leonard and the woman extended beyond friendship.
The public accusations mark the first direct confirmation from either party regarding the challenges facing their marriage. Since their high-profile wedding, rumours of a possible separation had circulated widely, but both actors largely remained silent on the matter.
Peggy Ovire and Freddie Leonard are among Nollywood’s most recognised stars, with successful acting careers that made their marriage one of the industry’s most talked-about unions.
