Commissioner releases video as authorities hunt fleeing accomplices involved in late-night road attack.

A suspect has been arrested by the Lagos State Environmental Task Force and Anti-Crime Squad following a violent attack on a motorist whose vehicle broke down along the busy Oshodi–Iyana Ipaja Road.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night at about 8:30pm, when the stranded driver was reportedly accosted by a group of hoodlums who demanded money after his car developed a fault on the roadway.

Lagos Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrest in a post accompanied by a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.

According to Wahab, operatives of the task force swiftly responded to the scene and apprehended one of the suspects, while other members of the gang managed to escape.

“Yesterday, at about 2030hrs, the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce/Anti-Crime Squad arrested a suspect for attacking and forcibly demanding money from an innocent citizen whose vehicle broke down along the Oshodi–Iyana Ipaja Road,” the commissioner wrote.

He added that the arrested suspect acted alongside accomplices who are currently at large, stressing that efforts are underway to track them down.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

The incident has renewed concerns over the safety of motorists on major Lagos roads, particularly during nighttime breakdowns, as residents continue to call for tougher action against street crime.
