Owerri, Imo State – Two suspected armed robbers were arrested on Wednesday, March 11, following a daring chase at a car wash in Aladinma, Owerri, police confirmed.

The Imo State Police Command said the suspects, identified as 29-year-old Solomon Ejekwe from Ubaha Orodo, Mbaitoli LGA, and 35-year-old Emeka Charles from Umuopara Ngugo, Ikeduru LGA, allegedly accosted a man washing his car and stole his gold chain at gunpoint.

According to Henry Okoye, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, the victim gave chase in his vehicle and ran the suspects down, drawing the attention of a crowd before police operatives arrived. “Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have today, March 11, 2026, arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition following a swift response to a distress call in Owerri,” he said.

Police recovered a pistol and seven rounds of ammunition from the suspects. Preliminary investigations revealed that the robbers approached the victim, brandished a firearm, and fled on a motorcycle. They were overpowered and beaten by an angry mob before being taken into custody.

Okoye explained that the suspects were taken to the police medical centre for treatment and will be arraigned in court after investigations are concluded.

The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Audu Garba Bosso, commended the swift response of officers and praised members of the public for cooperating with law enforcement. However, he warned residents against mob action, stressing that justice must follow legal procedures.

This arrest underscores the ongoing efforts of the Imo State Police to tackle armed robbery and strengthen public safety in the state capital.
