IBADAN – A tragic road accident occurred along Amuloko Road on Wednesday when a passenger bus plunged into the Ariyo River, leaving three people dead and five others rescued alive.
The Oyo State Fire Services Agency confirmed the incident. Its Chairman, Moroof Akinwande, said personnel received a distress call from Mrs. Fadeke Yusuf and immediately deployed to the scene.
“Upon arrival, we met a Suzuki bus (OSUN LEW 484 XA) with eight passengers which lost control and crashed into a river. Five persons were rescued alive and conveyed to Ona–Ara Private Hospital in Jegede area, while three lifeless bodies were recovered and handed over to a team of policemen from Ogbere Divisional Headquarters led by ASP Aishat Ibrahim,” Akinwande stated.
He attributed the accident to reckless driving and urged motorists to exercise caution and follow road safety guidelines to prevent similar incidents.
Akinwande also commended the support of the Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency (OYRTMA) Ona Ara Division and Glorious Temitope, Chairman of Ona Ara Local Government, for their assistance during the rescue operation.
