The governorship candidate of Labour Party in Ebonyi State, Mr. Edward Nkwegu has charged security agencies in the country to allow the Nigerian masses express their will freely in the forthcoming elections.

He made the call on Wednesday at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, while addressing journalists upon his arrival from Abuja.

He was flanked by many chieftains of the party, including a House of Reps candidate, Hon. Emmanuel Ezeh.

The list displayed on Tuesday by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, confirmed Nkwegu as the Labour Party guber candidate in Ebonyi and Igwe Ajah Nwabueze as his running mate.

While commenting on the disruption of the ‘Obidients’ rally in Ebonyi, he said security agencies should not be used to thwart the will of the people.

“I believe that the people of this country, it has got to a time they want to take back their country; many of the challenges that we face, I believe that security agencies will learn from their past experiences and improve on what they have been doing.

“I strongly believe that the masses will take the bull by the horn and resist any attempt to frustrate the elections.

“There are challenges around the election but I believe security agencies will rise to the occasion,” he stated.

He re-affirmed his hope that despite the All Progressives Congress, APC, being ruling party in Ebonyi State, “Labour Party has what it takes to win Ebonyi election because all the public and civil servants, patriotic youths, women and even the vulnerable people in the society are all Labour Party members and they are going to vote en-mass.

“He said the election is going to be about the quality and character of persons; the competence of the individual, the capacity and the commitment of the individual, that’s what the electorate will look at.

“INEC has improved so far in the conduct of elections and I believe they are going to do well,” he opined.
