The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has accused Governor Simon Lalong of abandoning his official responsibilities as governor for personal activities.

The party said the absence of the Governor is negatively affecting the economic development of the state.

The PDP stated this through its State Publicity Secretary, Mr John Akans, while briefing journalists at the state secretariat of the party in Jos, the state capital.

Akans said, “Governor Simon Lalong in his usual manner has abandoned pressing issues of governance in the state for his personal interest, while Plateau people are facing a bitter experience as a result of leadership vacuum created by Lalong’s consistent absence.

“This is a man that does not stay in Plateau, instead he is roving from point to the other, for personal reasons, and does not know what is happening in his state.”

The PDP also accused the governor of telling lies, that the governorship candidate of the PDP will not participate in the 2023 general election.

“Gentleman of the press, you all recall that Governor Lalong while hosting his APC senatorial zone stakeholders, he openly told them that the PDP will not be part of the 2023 general elections,” Akans said.

The PDP spokesman allayed the electorates possible fears saying, “We wish to drum to the public that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Plateau chapter will participate fully in the 2023 general elections.”

Adding that, “what Plateau people need from Lalong for his remaining days in office is good governance not this packaged lies and propaganda he holds on to as campaign documents trying to mislead the public including the helpless electorates.”

“The APC’s desperation to continue in power through the back door is dead on arrival as it is an affront targeted at the good people of the state, who have gained little or nothing from them in seven and half years”, he stressed.
