In the build-up to the 2023 general elections, Chairman of the Nigeria Governor’s Forum (NGF) and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has said his Ogun State counterpart, Dapo Abiodun, deserves a second term in office, having performed beyond expectations.

The endorsement came when the outgoing governor of Ekiti state paid a visit to Abiodun in Abeokuta.

Recall that Gov. Dapo Abiodun succeeded Ibikunle Amosun, now a Senator representing the Ogun Central District of Ogun State. He is serving a second term in the Senate.

According to Fayemi, “As Chairman of the Governor’s Forum, I was elected to protect and to promote every governor who is a member of my forum, so, you shouldn’t be surprised if I want him back”.

He recalled how President Muhammadu Buhari came to commission some projects executed by the state governor, saying that, in itself is a statement of the leadership capacity of Abiodun within the short space of time he has been in office.

Fayemi, also noted that the ability to attract investment into the state stands him out as a governor with extensive knowledge of the investment terrain, which has attracted huge foreign direct investment into the state.

The Ekiti State Governor also stated that the recent investment running into hundreds of millions of dollars into the Olokola Free Trade Zone and the agro cargo airport by Arise Integrated Industrial Platform, couldn’t have been possible without the confidence of investors in the leadership of the state.

“He has demonstrated capacity, he has increased investment, naturally, this is a state that attracts more investment than the rest of us, those of us in the hinterland, because it is close to Lagos. But, on top of that, he has brought to bear his business acumen, his extensive knowledge of the investment terrain to attract a lot more investment,” Fayemi submitted.

Ogun State is known to enjoy proximity to Lagos State, a development the state is using to its advantage to attract investment opportunities.
