Victor Osimhen has underscored the importance of the veteran Odion Ighalo in Nigeria’s two-legged clashes against Ghana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup African qualifying playoffs and concurs with Samuel Chukwueze, that the Super Eagles feel very motivated to beat the Black Stars to the Qatar 2022 ticket, Completesports.com reports.

Super Eagles will travel to face the Black Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium Kumasi on Friday March 25, then host their West African arch-rivals at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja on Tuesday, March 29 2022.

Speaking after the Eagles’ first training session at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja on Tuesday ahead of their trip to Kumasi, SSC Napoli striker, Osimhen, said he and Super Eagles teammates were looking forward to getting good result in Kumasi before finishing the job in Abuja.

“We are determined to shoot them down at their home ground because we want to be at the world cup. So we are not going to defend, we are motivated to win in Kumasi because we want to be at the World Cup. We shall try and eliminate them at be in Qatar,” Osimhen told Completesports.com.

“It is not going to be an easy match because of the rivalry between us, but we cannot afford miss the 2022 World Cup. We will not allow a repeat of what happened against Central Africa when we lost in Lagos. We just have to get the job done in Kumasi,” the gangling striker stated.

Osimhen also stated that the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon was a disappointment for the Super Eagles because of the absence of some key players, but commended Sadiq Umar, Taiwo Awoniyi and Peter Olayinka for the good job they did in tournament, adding that the team will be stronger now with Odion Ighalo, Emmanuel Dennis, Leon Balogun and himself making a return

“Ighalo’s experience will help the team greatly, and we the younger ones will benefit from his striking ability and his experience. We shall work hard to win the two legs and qualify for the world Cup,” the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner stated.

“We are going all out for a win in Kumasi and make our work easier in the second leg in Abujà. We know it is going to be very tough, but qualifying for the World Cup is a big challenge we are not ready to lose,” Chukwueze enthused.
