International Women’s Day: Mrs Ortom charges Benue women on unity

Benue State first lady, Dr Eunice Ortom, has felicitated with women in the state on the occasion of the 2022 International Women’s Day.

The first lady, in a message to Benue women on Tuesday, noted that March 8th was a day earmarked by the United Nations to be globally observed as International Women’s Day to celebrate women’s achievements in all spheres of life.

She said the day also marked a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

Taking on the theme of this year’s commemoration which is ‘BREAK THE BIAS’, Mrs Ortom charged women to come together to create a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination towards achieving the reality of a Gender Equal World.

She noted that “in Benue State, progress has been recorded in creating space for women in the private and public spheres. However, the need gap remains wider and demands responsive actions from all to close the existing socio-economic gaps. It should be our collective responsibility and desire to see a Benue that is diverse, equitable, inclusive that presents equal opportunities for all citizens.

“Therefore, let us all rise to the occasion in one voice, a loving heart, through collective efforts to eliminate all forms of Social, Political, Cultural and Religious restrictions that hinder women’s development and progress. We need the support of all to foster equality for our daughters, sisters, wives, mothers and friends.

“The possibility lies in your hands! Choose to make progress, don’t be the barrier!!!

“I wish us all a happy International Women’s Day Celebration.”
