Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, has sympathized with the people of Ukraine who have been hit by the Russian invasion of the country.

Laporta, a lawyer by trade, spoke publicly in a video published on Thursday.

He also sent a special message to Barcelona’s supporters’ branch in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.

“In Barcelona’s name, I want to express my support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people,” Laporta said.

“Whenever we’ve had the chance to visit Ukraine, we have noticed the warmth and affection of Barcelona fans in the country.

“We have 28 members and a supporters club with 100 members in Kyiv.”

Laporta also referred to athletes from Ukraine who have represented Barcelona.

He said, “They have made Barcelona’s history better.

“To all of them, to all of the people who are suffering the horror of an unjustifiable war, know that we’re with you and we’ll help you to welcome all Ukrainians who come to our country searching for refuge.”

“Ukrainians, Barcelona stands with you, let’s stop the war!” Laporta concluded.

Meanwhile, the war between Russia and Ukraine began last Thursday.

The war enters its eighth day today with huge casualties already recorded.

President Putin had ordered the invasion of Ukraine over disagreement on some political issues.
