Willy Caballero set to join Chelsea’s rival

by OtownGist

Former Chelsea goalkeeper, Willy Caballero is set to join Premier League side, Southampton, on a short-term deal, The Athletic reports.

Southampton are set to snap up Caballero on a free transfer due to an injury crisis in their goalkeepers’ department.

Southampton goalkeepers, Alex McCarthy and Fraser Forster, are both injured ahead of their Premier League tie with Arsenal on December 11.

Ahead of the Arsenal clash, the Saints coach, Ralph Hasenhuttl, is left with 23-year-old goalkeeper Harry Lewis as McCarthy, who sustained a hamstring problem during their 1-1 draw with Brighton over the weekend, and Forster are injured.

Meanwhile, Caballero left Chelsea at the end of last season after spending four seasons at Stamford Bridge and making 38 appearances in all competitions.

The 40-year-old has been mainly used as a back-up goalkeeper during his time in England, last being the first choice at Malaga back in the 2013-14 season.

Southampton currently sit in the 15th position on the Premier League table with 16 points from 15 games.
