A magistrate court in Port Harcourt has remanded two male students of Okporo Secondary School in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State in a children remand home on a two-count charge of defilement and gang-raping.

According to the charges, the two students, identified as Chukwudi Daniel and Confidence Gbarabe, on the 27th day of October 2021 conspired among themselves to gang rape and defile a 14-year-old female student.

The two teenagers, who are also 14 years old, are said to have committed an offence punishable under section 51of the criminal code laws of Rivers State Nigeria.

The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

At the proceedings on Thursday, the defence counsel, Chinedu Ndah prayed the court to grant his clients bail which was opposed by the counsel representing the Federation of International female lawyers, FIDA.

Chief Magistrate Rita Oguguo after listening to the parties ordered the remand of the accused at the children remand home in Port Harcourt.

She adjourned the matter till 7 December 2021 for ruling on the bail application and possible hearing of the substantive suit.
