WAD Emperors Empowerment Foundation Abeokuta in conjunction with the Nigerian Army Wives Association (NAOWA) organized a financial empowerment program for wives of officers’ and soldiers on Friday 17 September at Alamala Barracks.
Admonishing the women during a short speech, the wife of the General Officer Commanding 81 Division Nigerian Army who is the Chairperson of NAOWA, 81 Division Chapter Mrs Oghenerukere Fejokwu brought greetings from the General Officer Commanding 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Lawrence Fejokwu and stated that she was highly impressed with the turnout of women in the barracks whenever a program was organised, she further stated that “To educate a woman means educating a nation because the woman is everything to the community she lives in” Mrs Fejokwu intimated the gathering of women on the need to manage whatever business venture they might find themselves involved in after the program.
Advising further, the Chairperson also warned against fighting in the barracks by the women, the consequences of which she said is outright ejection from the barracks. She however enjoined them to be tolerant with one another to build a peaceful environment.
The wife of the GOC also advised them to shun every form of illegalities that might tarnish the image of the Nigerian Army in general, the Division and the Brigade in particular. She further encouraged them to abide by all rules operating within the barracks and to channel whatever problems they might encounter to the right and appropriate authorities.
Earlier in her welcome address, the wife of the Commander 35 Artillery Brigade who is the Coordinator NAOWA Abeokuta Chapter, Mrs Adeola Adekoya noted that the program was organized to improve the financial capabilities of women in the barracks. Mrs Adekoya went further to implore the women to make judicious use of whatever grant they might be given, noting that to remain in business, one should separate feeding money from that of business. She said the Commander 35 Artillery Brigade Brig Gen Adewale Adekoya should be appreciated for the takeoff grant of two million naira he gave for the program
Making a presentation on cooperative and farming business, Mr Babajide Bakare encouraged the women to form groups through which they can assess cooperative loans.
Highlights of the event was presentation of souvenirs to dignitaries that graced the occasion.
