Residents of Avu, Obosima, Ohaji in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State have raised alarm over the poor state of their road, describing it as an eyesore.

The people told Tribune Online in Owerri that the road is the only linking road to the city and condemned the way and manner it had been abandoned.

A citizen of Obogwe along the road, Mr Sampson Ochie, said that the Avu, Obosima, Ohaji road had been too bad and as a result had subjected residents of the area to suffering.

Mr Ochie said that giving the poor state of the road, residents of the area could not transport their foodstuff and other food crops to market.

He regretted that business and other activities around the area had crashed due to the nature of the road which according to him had lingered for long.

Disturbed by the situation, the Keke operator beckoned on the government of Imo State to as a matter of urgency, come to their aid by fixing the road for the good of the people of the area.

Another resident of the area, Mrs Stafiny Iwueze, expressed sadness over the unfortunate state of the road, adding that people spend time trekking from track roads to access the main road to the city.

She joined other well-meaning residents in appealing to the government to come and fix the road.

She added that the continued delay in fixing the road may further jeopardise the fortunes of the area.

However, Youths of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area have joined the residents of the area through peaceful protest to draw the attention of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to the state of the road, urging them to come to their rescue.

Leading the protesting youths last week in Owerri, the National President of Ohaji/Egbema Youth, Ugorji Emmanuel, decried the continued neglect of the road which he described as a big linking road for the people of Ohaji/Egbema.
