Imo entertainers have declared their readiness to work closely with the government and security agents to secure the release of their colleague who was kidnapped by gunmen on Saturday in a film location.
Chibuzor Simon Emelu popularly known as Pressing Forward Movies was filming at Isu LGA of Imo State when gunmen attacked him and later whisked him away to an unknown destination.
An eye witness said they shot at his car before taking him away while the Chairman of Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN in Imo State, Lady Nneoma Ukpabi who spoke to OtownGist said everyone was in shock after the incident.
Following the event, a coalition of Imo entertainers have met in Owerri on Sunday, calling for the release of their colleague and urging both the government and security agents to do everything possible to see that ‘Pressing Forward’ is release on time and in one piece.
Lady Nneoma Ukpabi who also chaired the meeting on Sunday said that the incident has tripped the negative effects of the security situation in the state as it concerns entertainment, adding that Nollywood stars on set in Imo State are now refunding producers so they can leave for their safety.
She joined the others to call for the release of Mr. Chibuzor Emelu adding that his immediate release will further restore the faith people need to have in both the state government and the security agents.
While stating that they are ready to liaise with both government and security agents to achieve the safe release of their colleague, they also called on the government to ensure that entertainment and other businesses see adequate security that will enable them thrive in Imo State.
Meanwhile, a source has informed OtownGist that the kidnappers have established contact with the family of the victim.
The source said that a ransom of Ten Million Naira is being demanded by the kidnappers and so far, entertainers, friends and family members of the victim and working towards doing anything in their power that will ensure his safe release.
