The General Manager of Owerri Capital Development Authority OCDA, Engr. Innocent Ikpamezie, has called on the media in the state to join in preaching peace, saying that there is no way Governor Hope Uzodinma will intentionally set the state ablaze.
Engr. Ipkamezie while speaking in his Owerri Office on Wednesday, said that the security situation in the state is affecting everyone, adding that there is a need for journalists, media platforms, and social media handlers to join the government in finding a lasting solution for the problem in the state.
He said that peace is the only thing that will ensure normalcy in the state, with the nightlife Owerri is known for being crippled by insecurity and fear.
“No government will want any of her citizens to die. No governor will want his people to die unless he doesn’t have a human heart”
“I have worked with Governor Hope Uzodinma for years and there has never been any violence is attributed to him. He is a smart man who has his ways of solving problems, but violence is not one of them” Engr. Ipamezie said.
The OCDA GM said that the media is supposed to support the government in spreading information, calling on social media handlers especially to desist from misinformation because the effects are irreversible.
Engr. Innocent Ikpamezie said that people should pay attention to the source of information they post to avoid inciting more panic in the state. He further stated that achieving a peaceful state is a collective goal and everyone must join hands in debunking rumours against the government, security agents, and the people of the state.
“I beg you in the name of God to help preach peace because you have what ordinary people do not have. Even if you don’t like the present government or APC, there is no possible way you will hate Imo State because someone who is throwing stones inside the market does not know who it will hit”
“When everyone is preaching peace, it could have a positive effect on those perpetrating these attacks in the state and that is what we need now because when peace returns businesses will thrive and our great economy will bounce back to what it used to be again” Engr. Ikpamezie said.
