Big Battle Looms Again In Imo APC

by OtownGist

A fresh wave of political turbulence may be in the offing in the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Imo State.

This is as indications emerged that some powerful forces in the party, particularly those loyal to the Rochas Okorocha backed Daniel Nwafor faction in the party, are up against fresh moves by the party hierarchy to embark on fresh registration of new members into the party.

INNONEWS reliably gathered that the party hierarchy is pushing for registration of new members, ostensibly to fortify the APC ahead of the 2023 general elections.

This development is considered to be in favour of the State Caretaker Committee led by Marcellinus Nlemigbo, as it will now enjoy further extension of it’s tenure.

The national caretaker Committee led by Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, is said not to be disposed to hold fresh congresses in APC states, particularly in Imo State.

This is believed not to have gone down well with Nwafor faction, which is in court challenging Nlemigbo’s leadership of the party.

However, the Buni led national caretaker committee tenure is due to end in December. But there are signs that it’s time limit would be extended as it recently got a vote of confidence from the 36 State chairmen of the party, Imo APC inclusive.

A party source said “The party needs to be fortified and this is why fresh membership registration is ideal now, rather than holding congresses.

“With the way things are in the party in the State, a fresh Congress will dislocate the harmony in the party in Imo APC for now.

It was further gathered that the Uzodinma camp, is not disposed towards a Congress in order to avoid “fierce desperation by opposing forces to takeover the party in the State”

A top party source said ” The Governor needs to build fresh alliances. We need to inject fresh blood into the party in the State. And this is the reason why he is making new political friends such as Martin Agbaso, others. This is in line with the party’s disposition to embark on registration of new members
