Following weeks of delay for the scheduled first Phase of the OZB Federal Constituency Empowerment Scheme due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, Rep. Ozurigbo Ugonna, representative of the Nkwerre/Isu/Nwangele/Njaba federal constituency is set to empower women in the Constituency.


50 women in the large constituency drawn from the four Local Government Areas that form the federal legislative divide are set to be given a source of livelyhood by the rep member.


According to information made available to the press, on Tuesday, 30th of June 2020 at the Umuozu residence of Hon. Ozurigbo, 50 women from the Constituency will receive   Food Grinding Machines and seed capital as empowerment from the Federal House member in part fulfillment of his agenda to empower women.

Speaking to the press, Chief Ozurigbo acknowledged the hardship the current pandemic had heaped on the populace, especially the women which birth the idea of engaging a handful of them in a profitable occupation.


He noted that he decided on the food grinding business as an adequate Empowerment Scheme for the women after proper research for which he and his team came to the conclusion that it was indeed a viable business venture.


“In the course of identifying the proper business to engage our mothers and sisters in, we outlined 3 non capital intensive business for which we decided to explore the food grinding business.” Hon. Ozurigbo said.


“We chose the venture because the women need very little capital to start and it will still give them ampute opportunity to tend the home. But most importantly we discovered that most businesses in the Constituency revolved around food.” The former Deputy Speaker continued.

The House Committee Chairman on Justice added that a team will also be set-up to follow up on the welfare of the beneficiaries to ensure that their businesses are in good shape and growing.
Enyioha Gburugburu assured that several other empowerment programmes will be introduced as the year rolls on.


The proactive legislator further added that the second phase of empowerment would take place towards the end of july where 16 Tricycles and 102 Motorbikes will be distributed.


“Asides from the motorcycles I will share at the second phase of the empowerments, there will be a third phase towards the ending of the year that will see over 120 persons empowered with mini buses, Tricycles and motorbikes as a means of economic emancipation for our youths.” Hon.  Ozurigbo acknowledged.


He promised that after the 3 empowerment phases,  there will be quarterly employment, skill acquisition and training programmes for the federal constituency, with the inclusion of at least 1 project in each of the  wards in the constituency.


Beneficiaries are expected to be at the Umuozu home of the legislator by 12 noon on the announced day and are expected to be in kitted with their facemasks or faceshields according to the regulations of the Federal Government.
