The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lawan Jimeta, has ordered the arrest and detention of two policemen involved in public combat trending on social media.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chidi Nwabuzor, in a statement on Thursday said the command had taken action in response to the trending video on social media.

He said, “The information gathered from the Divisional Police Officer, Ebelle Divisional Headquarters, indicates that there was an accident involving one Blue Toyota Corolla car Reg No. ABJ 369 EG and one unregistered Daylong Motorcycle at Ebelle Town.

Nwabuzor said the DPO had detained the two officers in the cell at Ebelle.

“However the CP has ordered him to come down to State Headquarters with the erring rank and file,” he added.

Similarly, the Force Headquarters’ Public Relations Officer, Mr Frank Mba, in a statement said the two policemen in the viral video have been identified, arrested, and detained.

“They are currently undergoing internal disciplinary sanctions at the Edo State Police Command Headquarters.

“The Force wishes to apprise the general public that this show of shame is certainly not in our character and we will not condone such indiscipline.

“In the best tradition of transparency and accountability, the outcome of the trial will be made public. This, we believe, will also serve as a deterrent to other police officers,” Mba said.
