Strongman of politics in Okigwe Zone of Imo State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Tony Chukwu has warned those disturbing the peace of the zone in respect of its soon-to-be-declared vacant senatorial seat.

Imo North Senate seat was occupied by Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, who died last December at his residence in Abuja.

Chief Chukwu, who holds the title of Onweyi Ihe kariri Chineke also warned against peddling rumours of endorsement, saying no single individual will decide who will take over from Uwajumogu.

The business mogul expressed indignation at the influx of people to his house to canvass for support for the vacant Senate seat.

He insisted that neither him nor Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, Hon. Emeka Nwajiuba, Minister of State for Education or anybody from outside, would make the overall decision on who becomes the next Okigwe Zone Senator.

According to him, what they are waiting for is to give the late Uwajumogu a befitting burial after which they will sit down and decide on who takes over from the deceased senator.

He stressed that the person must have impeccable records, must be trustworthy, have integrity and will represent the people well.

Chief Chukwu advised interested candidates to remain calm and wait for Uwajumogu’s burial, urging them to stop coming to his house to compel him to support one aspirant or the other.

He further disclosed that the progress and peace of the zone is paramount to him, advising other stakeholders not to heat up the polity.
