The looming political crisis in Peoples Democratic Party PDP Imo State has taken a new turn as the state party chairman Chief Charles Babatunde Ezekwem has resigned.

Charles Ezekwem who was instrumental to the emergence of Hon. Emeka Ihedioha as the governorship candidate of PDP during the 2019 general election, resigned amidst mass defection of members of the party at the Imo State House of Assembly and other levels.

“in view of the prevailing circumstances within my party, vis-a-vis my present standing as the state chairman of Imo State PDP and after due consultation with my family and the approval of my supporters, I  hereby tender my resignation as PDP Chairman Imo State, also as a member of the party in the ward of Okigwe LGA, which has been duly communicated to the Ward Chairman”, a letter published in some local dailies in Imo State read.

He however thanked the party for the opportunity to serve,  regretting all inconveniences his resignation would cause the party.

Hon. Ezekwem is dumping the party amidst speculations that Hon. Ihedioha is heading back to supreme court with more facts, and while many PDP faithfuls are being hopeful that the apex court will overturn her decision to sack Emeka Ihedioha, losing a state party chairman will be another heartbreak.

Charles Ezekwem’s political destination is not known, although odds favour APC, who are plotting to cripple PDP in the state.

Already, Gov. Hope Uzodinma of APC who is a former PDP member has appointed, Charles Anyaehie, a former PDP state Chairman in his Cabinet, and their former network in PDP could be used to cripple it’s structures across the state.
