Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Imo State Police Command have arrested a nurse, Harrison Okoroafor, for robbery.

Five other suspects, who allegedly specialised in snatching vehicles from residents, were also apprehended.

The state Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Ladodo, who paraded the suspects, said that the command was committed to ensuring a “crime-free Imo State.”

The CP gave the names of the other suspects as Ikenna Eze, Chukwudi Ezeala, John Ogubuike, Abdul Ahmed and Eze Emeka.

Exhibits recovered from the gang, according to the CP, were one Toyota spider vehicle, one Toyota Siena, one double-barrelled gun, one locally-made single-barrelled gun, one live cartridge and one expended cartridge.

Ladodo said Ogubuike’s nabbing by ASP Banjoko Oluwemimo on September 4 at Owerri led to the arrest of the other members of the gang.

He added that the operation took the SARS operatives to Enugu and Benue states, where vehicles stolen by the gang were recovered.

The CP stated, “On September 4, SARS operatives, led by ASP Banjoko Olumemimo, arrested one John Ogubuike, a notorious armed robber, who had been terrorising the inhabitants of the Ideato North and South local government areas of Imo State. He confessed to the crime and took the operatives to the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, where one Harrison Okoroafor was arrested.

“One of the arrested notorious armed robbers, Chukwudi Ezeala, took operatives to Igbele Enugu, where one Emeka Eze, a native doctor, was arrested; immediate search was conducted on his shrine, which led to the recovery of one double-barrelled gun, one locally-made single-barrelled gun, one live cartridge and one expended cartridge.”
