Conducting LG election without resolving 2010 ALGON dissolution

0

The Imo state government of Rt. Honourable Emeka Ihedioha has set in motion plans to conduct Local Government election in December, 2019. It is a good move, ordinarily, in order to get the democratic train in Imo state moving effectively.

Everyone in Imo state is happy that the administration is poised to conduct Local Government election soon after it came on board, unlike the previous past two regimes who did same as they were about to leave office.

One group that may not be wished away while thinking of such a laudable move is the 2010 Local Government chairmen and councillors who were illegally dissolved from office on June 6, 2011. Majority of them remained steadfast in PDP despite the suffering they went through in the past eight years, while shunning juicy carrots dangled before them to go over to other parties. Rather they remained closed like the monks praying to God for their party PDP to regain power in Imo state. Only a few of them crossed over to other parties.

To demonstrate the joy the 2010 ALGON members had with the gubernatorial victory, they wore uniform to attend the inauguration of Ihedioh on May 29, 2019.

The state Government, currently piloted by Governor Emeka Ihedioha ought to appreciate their kind gesture by showing them love in finding a way to resolve their matter with government amicably.

From all indications, it does appear that Algon 2010 has become child of circumstance in Imo state. If Okorocha who was of another party and who dissolved them should treat their matter with levity, naturally, Ihedioha who is of the same political family with them ought not toe same line.

Rather, he should show more compassion towards them by soothing their frustrating mood.

The fact that they are of PDP which is same political family with the governor should not make the government take them for granted. Daily Nigerian Horn check can state on good authority that since after the inauguration of the new administration on May 29, 2019, this group has not been invited by the government for dialogue on how to resolve their matter amicably.

Information reaching our stable also shows that this core party men and women,

who carried the banner of PDP in Imo state right from 2011 when the party lost the governorship seat and they were dissolved, up till this moment, are willing to go into peaceful resolution with the PDP state Government than continue with their case still pending at the Supreme Court.

For peace to reign in Imo state, the wisest thing for Ihedioha Government to do is to go into peaceful resolution with this group so as to resolve the matter, to pave way for a peaceful conduct of the proposed Local Government election.

The Government should realize that even if those of them still in PDP remain patient to allow the government to conduct the election without resolving the matter, those of them in other parties may not be that patient. Any litigation instituted by such group against the conduct of the election will not be too good for the peace of the state.

Daily Nigerian Horn therefore implore His Excellency Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha  to embrace wisdom by resolving the issue amicably so as to allow peace to reign in Imo state.

It will be recalled that as soon as Emeka Ihedioha won the gubernatorial election, Daily Nigerian Horn harped in its front comment the need to resolve this issue once and for all.

The paper went a step ahead to suggest that as the first leg to resolving the matter  those of them who are still in PDP should be sent to serve in the council, for an agreed period of time with the Government.

Since that did not take place, the best approach to resolving the matter is for the government to go into peaceful resolution of the matter by negotiating on agreeable form of paying them their entitlements so that the matter will be put to rest.
