Imo PDP Chieftains ‘Fasting And Praying’ To Become Commissioner

Some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Imo State who are keen to become Commissioners in Governor Emeka Ihedioha’s cabinet have resorted to desperate moves.

Governor Ihedioha’s delay in releasing the list of his would be commissioners has compelled some of those eyeing various posts in his cabinet to intensify their lobby.

Aside lobbying close buddies of the Governor such as political kingpins, godfathers and mothers, influence peddlers, to be considered for appointments, some of the intending commissioners have resorted to spiritual help through relentless fasting and prayer.

One of the intending commissioners had told this newspaper that aside “putting his chaplet in water” he has embarked on intense prayers including fasting to seek divine intervention to enable him make the Governor’s commissioners list.

The resort to spiritual measures could be traced to the overwhelming number of those who want to be commissioners in the new administration.

It was observed that the number of those eyeing positions in the present government is really frightening and alarming.

A source who is in the know of ongoings that will lead to the appointment of Commissioners said ” Most of them see it like if they do not get it now, it will take a long time for them to be remembered again.

” Some PDP chieftains who are interested in the positions infact see it as last resort. If they fail to get it now, they think it will take a long time for them to get it again. I must tell you the lobbying is so fierce.

Governor Ihedioha is said to have come under intense pressure from party chieftains to be considered for commissioner appointments. The pressure is mainly coming from those who stood with him during and after he governorship campaigns and after the electoral victory.

It has been observed that because of the enormous pressure, the Governor decided to ensure a good number of party loyalists were either appointed into Commitees and at the local Governments as either Chairmen of Interim Management Commitee or as members.

A source said ” Most of the Interim Management Commitee Chairmen were PDP local Government Chairmen.The Governor believes in rewarding hardwork and loyalty. And he has towed that path since he was elected.

” Though appointing round pegs in round roles remain the chief factor that will influence and shape the appointment of Commissioners, party chieftains and loyalists will be accommodated” the source concluded
