The beautiful city of Owerri saw a difference on the 29th of June 2019 as Rotary Club of Owerri District 9142 changed leadership from a charming lady, Rotn Ijeoma Georgy Akuegbu-Sunday to a gorgeous lady, Rotn. Dr Nneka Goretti Ewenike.

The venue where the event took place, The Mall Aladinma was filled to the brim with Professional men and women, Political leaders, Government officials, Security chiefs, Business gurus, Rotaractors and Rotarians from various parts of the country. Amongst whom were the Imo State Commissioner of Police who represented the Deputy inspector General of Police Ali, District Governor (District 9125) Rotn Dr. Victor Onukwugha and his spouse Dr. Mrs. Pearl Onukwugha, District Governor Elect (District 9142) Rotn. Ndukwe Chukwu, the Guest Speaker, Prof. Rotn. AU Nonyelum, Prince Seyi Lufadeju, the Prince of Ilesha, Prof. Jude Njoku, the Installation Committee Chairman, Rotn. Barr. Uche Oguwuike Ph.D and Connect Presidents of other clubs. Some Technocrats and Business men received award for their humanitarian services.

The Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Owerri was inaugurated and gifts were given to the less privileged. Top of the day was five (5 )wheel chairs handed over to five (5) indigent disabled men and women who had difficulties in movement. The joy and tears on their faces proved what Rotary is all about “Doing Good to Humanity”.

Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbours, friends, leaders and problem solvers who unite and take action to create a lasting change in the globe, in our communities and in our lives. Last Rotary year, many lives were touched also, the deaf and dumb school at Orodo Mbaitoli LGA, 200 people received reading glasses at Mbaise, training and health talks to students in secondary school at Owerri.

This Rotary year has started with handing over of wheelchairs followed by Hepatitis screening of over 300 people at World bank and St. Stephen’s Anglican Church Orji, with results already out. The next will be a follow up on treatment.

Other projects mapped out for the year include but not limited to:
1. Peace Building and Conflict Prevention program.
2. Disease Prevention and Treatment (Kick-Out Malaria)
3. Breast Cancer Awareness
4. Provision of Clean Water to a needy Community.
5. Maternal and Child Care Program
6. Basic Education and Literacy Campaign
7. Economic and Community Development Program.
