As the twenty-one days given to aggrieved political candidates in the state for the 2019 elections elapsed last Sunday, March 21, the Elections Tribunal has started sittings in the state capital, Owerri
So far, some gubernatorial candidates in the elections in the state have made categorical statements with regard to their positions with the declaration of the results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.
Senator Ifeanyi Araraume said he was yet to take a position on the outcome.
The Action Alliance standard flag bearer, Ugwumb Uche Nwosu, in a press briefing, said he would challenge the result in the court of law.
Just as senator Hope Uzodimma and some other parties too rejected the result.
For the state House of Assembly appears a deluge of petitions from candidates who said they would challenge the results in the law court.
The tribunal is ready to hear and dispense off all these petitions within the stipulated timeframe.
Election tribunals in Nigeria are the direct creation of Section 285 of the country’s Constitution.
