The police on Thursday claimed that fake military men were responsible for the killing of the chairman of All Progressives Congress, Ifeanyi Ozoemena, in Logoro/Umuahiagu in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.
The Deputy Inspector General of police in charge of the 2019 General Elections in the South East zone, Michael Ogbizi, who briefed journalists at the police command headquarters in Owerri, said the police were ready to deal with fake policemen and soldiers during the elections.
The DIG said the gunmen who murdered the APC chairman were four and operated in an SUV.
Declaring the killing as a challenge to security agencies in the state, the police boss vowed that none of the fake military men would escape the wrath of the law.
On Saturday’s elections, Ogbizi said security agencies had deployed enough security men for the rescheduled polls.
Declaring Imo State as flashpoint in the South-East ahead of the polls, the DIG said desperate politicians in the state would be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
The DIG said, “Four fake military men were responsible for the killing of an APC ward chairman in Imo State two days ago. They operated in a red SUV.
“We have taken appropriate measures to make sure nobody toys with the sanity of the Saturday elections. Those who murdered the APC chairman will not escape justice.”
