Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, yesterday cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigeria Army and Police against any attempts to subvert the people’s will in the general elections.

Dogara, who made the assertion at his campaign rally in Bununu, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is perfecting plans to rig the polls with the connivance of INEC and security agencies.

“We hear that APC wants to rig the election with the help of INEC and security agencies, but they have forgotten how God dealt with people like them in the past. God will disgrace them out of office just the way Pharaoh and Hitler were disgraced out of office.

“They say all kinds of things against me, but I have done more for Bauchi State than all of them in APC put together. Look around you, is there anything the government has done for you in the last four years? “Recently, I sent some people to rebuild some mosques in this town, but they were stopped because the Chairman said he would be sacked if the mosque was rebuilt. Today, we are receiving over 10,000 defectors,” he said.

The Speaker, who maintained that only God gives power to whoever he pleases said, “Apart from God, nobody gives or takes power. Cast your votes and wait until they are counted, don’t allow them to steal your votes.”He revealed that some people are conniving with government to cause crisis during the forthcoming elections, adding: “The person sponsoring this is not from Bauchi and he can leave once the environment becomes uncomfortable. He will take his family out of the state, if he is defeated in the election.”

He alleged that there were evidences that the state government has procured assault rifles to achieve the goal and debunked insinuations that he was opposing Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar’s re-election because he was not originally from the state. Dogara also assured that the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Bala Mohammed, would ensure local governments’ autonomy if elected governor of Bauchi State.

Also speaking, Mohammed chided APC over what he described as ‘excessive recklessness’, saying the people have not felt the impact of governance in the last four years. The state’s PDP Chairman, Alhaji Hamza Akuyam, who received the defectors at the PDP campaign rally in Bununu, berated Abubakar for not working for Bauchi State and its people. He charged those still supporting the APC to understand the failures in the party and move over to the PDP to foster progress and development in Bauchi and the entire country.
