There is uncertainty mixed with anxiety in Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP over the next political move of Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
Anyanwu vied for the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Imo State.
He has been in the cooler since he dragged Emeka Ihedioha, the eventual winner of the PDP governorship primary in the State, to Court.
However, dust were raised when his supporters and political henchmen had visited the campaign office of APC governorship candidate, Senator Uzodinma last week thus fueling speculations that Anyanwu may pitch his tenth with his co senator from Imo State ahead of the governorship polls.
Among Anyanwu’s men that were part of the visit to Senator Uzodinma were Mr. Fabian Ihekweme, a strong political ally of the Senator.Their mission to Uzodinma’s campaign abode was not disclosed to the public.
However a close source to the Senator revealed at the weekend that the visit of the Senator’s men to Senator Uzodinma does not define his support for the APC governorship candidate. He however said in a matter of days and after the Presidential polls on February 16, 2019, the Senator will make his position known.
Senator Anyanwu who represents Owerri zone in the Senate had challenged the victory of Hon Emeka Ihedioha as governorship candidate of the PDP in Imo State. He said the primary that produced Ihedioha as governorship candidate of the party was fraudulent.
His political organization, Divine Mandate had last month announced the formation of Imo New PDP. Anyanwu later denied links to the move.
Last week, a leader of the PDP and adjudged political godfather of Senator Anyanwu, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu told PDP faithful that he has instructed Anyanwu to withdraw the matter in court.
Anyanwu has not complied with the directive fueling speculations that he will proceed with the matter. He has also not showed up at Imo PDP governorship campaign after he declined his appointment as member of the party’s campaign council in the State. He has however pledged his support to the presidential bid of PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
A facebook user and Owerri based journalist, Mr. Iheanyi Enwerem, on Sunday gave an indication that Senator Anyanwu may remain in the PDP but support the governorship candidacy of Senator Hope Uzodinma, the governorship candidate of the APC.
He wrote on his wall ” Scattering News…Distinguished Sen Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu drums support for his Distinguished colleague and brother Sen. Hope Uzodinma in the forthcoming March 2, 2019 gubernatorial election.
“Meanwhile it is said that loyalist close to the Owerri Senatorial zone legislator will make official press release to this effect this week.
