The Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Sir George Eche, who represented the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, today, declared open the Nigerian Army Regimental Sergeant Majors’ Convention 2018, in Owerri.

The Chief of Army Staff, who was represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC)82 division Enugu, Major General Emmanuel Kabok, advised the RSM’s to see themselves as the bridge between the Officers’ cadre and the Soldiers.’

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai, has called on all Sergeant Majors in the 82 division and other subordinate brigades, to always improve their knowledge base with the cardinal principles of engagement tactics and discipline, even in the face of daunting security challenges.

General Buratai stated this in Owerri,the Imo state capital while delivering his keynote address at the flag off of the Nigerian Army Regimental Sergeant Majors’ Convention 2018,with the theme: Enhancing discipline as the bedrock of professionalism in the Nigerian Army.

He thanked the Governor of Imo state for his magnanimous contributions towards the enhancement of operations at both the 82 Division and the 34Brigade.’We are highly grateful Your Excellency’

Declaring the Convention open,His Excellency Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha (OON), represented by the Secretary to the Government of Imo State Sir George Ezenna Eche, thanked the COS for choosing Owerri and by extension Imo as host for this years conference. He said that the role of the military in the preservation of Nigeria’s had earned democracy cannot be over emphasized.

Owelle said that with the position of Imo state as the hob of the East in both tourism and infrastructural development, the Army hierarchy couldn’t have made a better choice than Imo.

He advised them to harness the tourism potentials of the state by taking out time from their course schedule, to visit the huge infrastructural sites and monuments of his administration, scattered evenly in the three senatorial districts of the state.

Finally, he promised to treat them in the famous and rich Imo hospitality throughout the duration of the convention.
