An elder statesman and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has denied statement credited to him in the Horn Newspaper edition of 20th August 2018, where it was said “Iwuanyawu explodes-Sam Daddy must be governor: anybody contesting the governorship election with him, is merely wasting his resources”.

Iwuanyawu while addressing members of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly, led by the National President, Comrade Darlington Uzoahia (Dynamic) yesterday, denied ever making such statement. He explained that, what he said was that PDP should cede the ticket for the 2019 governorship slot to an Owerri man and maintained that as a person, he has the right to support any candidate of his choice.

According to him, it will amount to injustice to deny Owerri Zone the opportunity to produce the next governor of the state. Chief Iwuanyawu also revealed that the meeting where it was agreed that the 1999 governorship slot be ceded to Orlu Zone was held in his house, in the presence of himself and some other prominent sons of Imo State, who were part of the arrangement.

“That was why we stopped Humphrey Anumudu and allowed Achike Udenwa’s candidature, to sail through, in line with the Imo charter of equity. Everybody from Owerri Zone has the constitutional right to contest and I don’t have the right to stop anybody. No doubt,Senator Samuel Anyawu has an edge over other aspirants and his entrance in the governorship race has revived and kindled the interest of strong people who have clout, like Senator Chris Anyanwu and others who had almost left the party because of high handedness”.

He finally urged the youths to mobilize support for Owerri Zone to produce the next governor, in reciprocation of what the zone did for Orlu in 1999.

In his response, Comrade Darlington Uzoahia thanked him for giving them audience and said they have just begun their consultation ahead of 2019 general election. “At the appropriate time, Orluzurumee will take a stand on the issue and decide which zone to support”.
