The highly rated Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University, (IMSU) Owerri, Professor (Mrs) Victoria Adaobi Obasi recently added yet another feather to her cap of merit awards on July 26, 2018. She, at the occasion bagged an “Award of Excellence” for her contributions towards the growth and development of education in Nigeria.

Professor Adaobi Obasi who has earned several awards of Excellence in Administration and Education Development, was this time honoured by no less a body than the Faculty of Education of the Abia State University (ABSU) at the 8th Annual Conference of the Faculty held at Uturu, Campus Abia State.

Delivering a keynote paper at the conference with the theme “Education for Effective, Sustainable Governance” Professor Obasi harped on the nexus education-governance, has in the expression of the quality of leadership and followership.

She contended that education is too critical a factor to be left out in political recruitment and the governance is too important not to beget the benefit of good education positing that an educated citizenry is one that is easy to inform and can easily inform government of their needs and feelings.

She concluded that one of the reasons governance in Africa has proved ineffective is compromising of Education component of leadership, recruitment requirement as this has given rise to a malaise, which rather than develop strong and effective institutions, Africa has produced strong ineffective individuals in leadership positions.

The highlight of the Education conference was the award of excellence to Professor Obasi by the Faculty of Education with the Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu Professor Uche Ikonne, as the facilitator.

Among those who attended the conference at Uturu with Professor Adaobi Obasi were the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor B.E.B. Nwoke, the Acting Registrar, Mrs Ogbu Rosekate and former V.C of IMSU, Professor I.C. Okonkwo.
