The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, on Monday, restrained the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, from conducting fresh congresses in Imo state until August 21.

The Court, in a ruling that was delivered by Justice Babatunde Quadri, equally barred the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from monitoring any congress that is conducted before the said date.

The ruling followed a suit that was lodged before the high court by a faction of the APC in Imo State led by Senator Osita Izunaso, Senator Ben Uwajimogu , Mr Mathew Omegara, Mr Hilary Ekeh and Mr Patrick Uzoukwu. Justice Quadri who sat as a vacation Judge, ordered all the parties to maintain status quo till the adjourned date.

The plaintiffs had in an application they filed through their counsel, Mr. Ahmed Raji, SAN, prayed the court to abort any move by the party to conduct primaries in the state, ward or local government, pending the determination of their suit.

Raji said his clients were apprehensive that without an express order from the court, the defendants would proceed to conduct primaries in Imo state before the adjourned date, thereby reducing the suit pending before the court to an academic exercise.
