The Federal Government has launched the Nigeria Public Health Training Initiative, NPHTI, in Imo State.
The NPHTI was launched at the School of Nursing, Umulogho in Obowo Local Government Area of the state in collaboration with Carter Centre.
This is coming at a time rural dwellers in Imo had pleaded that government should give adequate attention to improving the maternal and child health services in the state.
Mr. Olubayode Olugbenga, who represented the Minister of Health said: “the aim of the initiative is to increase the number of quality professionals serving in the communities.
“The initiative will also provide classroom resources, reduction of key morbidity/mortality indicators and several others.
“The benefits included adequate number of trained health care providers deployed throughout the country to provide well- trained instructors; provide education and training; high level of health professionals and standardisation of health professional curriculum throughout the country . It will also provide coordination of curriculum with the needs of health care providers in all regions.”
In his remark, the representative of Carter Centre, Mr. Emmanuel Miri, said: “NPHTI was established in 2012 by the Federal Ministry of Health and the project commenced in 2014 after MoU was signed between FG and Carter Centre.”
