The Amadi family of Umumbazu Umualum Nekede, Owerri West LGA has called on the Imo State government and all people of good conscience to impress it upon the traditional Ruler of Nekede, HRH, Eze Stephen Agumanu to leave their piece of land located at Erikereji alone as that is their only land left.

Speaking to the press after his reported recent arrest and detention, at the Area Command police station (fire service) over the land, a member of the family, senior Apostle Stephen O. Amadi who is presently receiving medical attention abroad accused the traditional ruler of collaborating with one Mr. Alilonu Humphrey to illegally trespass into their land under the guise of government acquisition.

Apostle Ikechi Amadi, the first son of Pa Amadi warned that his family will not be intimated into abandoning their land inheritance for the Royal father and his aides who he said allegedly sold the land to one Humphrey Alileonu with alleged forged papers from the Ministry of Land, Imo State.

Ikechi Amadi said, “I got used to farming since I was young because my dad had accident in 1974 while working for Shell. My mother had to be strong, using farming to take care of her family. But of all those farmlands, none is now left as government had taken all, except this very one in context. Because it is our only land, we have been very watchful over it.

“One day, I met a certain man named Humphrey Alilonu in the farmland and questioned him why he was in the land. The man instead of explaining to me went and called police on patrol whom he used to harass me. I went to Owerri West Divisional Police Headquarters Umuguma and reported the matter. The police from Umuguma came there and invited us including the roadside police he had earlier arranged. On getting to the Divisional Police headquarters, the Roadside Police Alilonu invited disappeared.

“However after hearing both of us, the police at Umuguma asked us to come back the next day but with specific instructions for him Alilonu to come back the next day with those brothers who he told the police sold our land to him. He came back the next day with no body but changed his statement that he has certificate of occupancy as proof of ownership which he could not present to the police.
“Two weeks later, instead of going to Umuguma police station where the matter was being investigated, he went back to work on the land, this time with a Hillux load of police men who laid siege around the farmland, unknown to me”.

Continuing his story, Amadi said, “when I got information that he was back to the land and went to confront him again, the policemen he invited arrested me and took me to Area Command (fire service) where I was detained till the next day.

“ While all these was going on, the Eze of our community came to the police station where he was seen by my Sister Martina Chinyere Amadi releasing documents believed to be forged documents of the land to the purported buyer, Alilonu Humphrey. The Eze threatened to kill my sister Chinyere Amadi at the police station upon discovering that she is from Amadi Family and had come to take me on bail. The Eze Agumanu even claimed that my sister Chinyere was calling and insulting him on phone, even when my sister never had his phone number,” Apostle Ikechi Amadi explained.

He went as far as talking with my brother abroad threatening to kill my sister before he would come back since he is staying overseas, adding that he would be ready for any action they would take upon their arrival.

A source said the land in question had already been acquired by government adding that the Amadi family came to disturb people working on the land which government allocated to them and were therefore arrested by police.

“I can never stop government from acquiring any land they want to acquire. Besides the land had earlier been compensated for” Eze Agumanu was said to have revealed and that he denied threatening the life of anybody.
