Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has called for caution in the wake of his side’s 1-0 win over Poland-the 6th best football team in the world.
Victor Moses converted a 61st minute penalty to give Nigeria the win even though the over-all performance left much to be desired. Rohr believes that beating teams like Argentina and Poland does not mean his team has arrived yet and they must stay humble & continue to work hard to improve on their play. His words: “This team is a young team but also a team of leaders. If we stay humble & continue to work hard to improve our play we have huge potentials, but beating two FIFA top 10 teams in friendlies doesn’t mean we are now World Cup favourites.
Nigeria beat Argentina 4-2 in an international friendly played in Russia in November of 2017. Argentina is the 3rd best team in the world while Poland is 6th. Nigeria’s next game is a friendly against Serbia in London on Tuesday next week. Nigeria is in Group D alongside Argentina, Croatia and Iceland for the FIFA World Cup starting in June.
