Photos: Team Imo hailed at 2017 Calabar Carnival after a dazzling outing

Imo State contingents at the 2017 edition of the famous Calabar Carnival have been hailed by the people of Cross River State as well as Imolites living there for what they called a dazzling performance.

The team which fielded over 700 participants was led by the Deputy Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ugonna Ozuruigbo who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Arts, Culture and Tourism; and before they took off for a 12.5km parade, the lawmaker said he is expecting a wonderful outing from his crew.

Speaking further on why Imo Carnival is not holding her carnival this December, he said that the agreement with Cross River State to have them return the visit will make Imo Carnival come Easter, á blast’ as more people will be attending.

He however admitted there would lots of visitors, but refused to name them, adding that “it would not be a surprise again if I name them”

With Team Imo surely having the highest number of people, Cross Rivers State was given a treat of both cultural and contemporary dances from the young and talented team.

One the people who spoke to www.otowngist.com said; “Thank God Imo State is not competing in the carnival, they could have come and won our trophies”

Another Imolite residing in Calabar who spoke to us, expressed his satisfaction in having Imo State put up such a show of high magnitude, adding that it will further make people over there respect the State.

The cultural representations in the team was also commended as Ada and Opara Imo who led the procession received most commendation as people cheered ‘Igwe’ and ‘lolo’, with that being the best they could do from the Nollywood movies they have seen.

Also in the crew are Mr. Paddy Obinna, SA on Arts and Culture to Imo State Governor, Mrs. Nneoma Ukpabi, Imo AGN Chairman, Royal Prince, Tuclean, KingJ, DJ Harmonix, Chupac, Queenzy, James Kalu amongst other known dancers, models and artistes.

South Africans, Morocans, Chinese and people from other European and American countries were visible at the carnival, take pictures, while other paraded their floats.
