Indigenes of Egbu in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State have shut down the PHCN facility in the area, as well as Egbu raod while demanding for steady power supply.

The protest which broke out in the morning of Tuesday April 4, 2017 has the angry youths carrying sticks, stones and broken bottles chase staff of the establishment away from their office while demanding that something be done to the epileptic power supply they receive despite having the power distribution facilities located in their land.

One of the indigenes who spoke to us said, they have endured enough and the PHCN staff are fund of waiting for them to protest before steady power could come to them.

He said; “This has to stop. Their facilities are on our land and there is no way we can’t be having light. They are fund of waiting for us to protest before anything could be done, but today will be the end of that. They can call the police or army if they like but we don’t care. This is our land and no one can chase us from it”

Already there are police vans and officers stationed at around the area, but they are not doing anything to calm down the protest which has cut off Egbu road, leaving people to drive behind Shoprite before they can reach Owerri municipal.

Aside the epileptic power supply, Egbu community has also seen untold hardship as a result of the bad nature of the road which usually causes serious traffic congestion during rush hours.
