A final year student of Imo state University, Owerri, was shot dead by suspected dreaded cultists who are said to be members of a rival cult group operating on the campus.

The victim, whose identify was yet to be ascertained as of press time, was shot dead at a close range at a popular drinking outfit, Orange groove, located at IMSU Junction yesterday at about 5pm .

According to an eyewitness account, the dead was relaxing at the drinking bar, when some suspected cultists arrived the scene and shot him on his head and zoomed off which led to his instant death.
The visibly shivering eyewitness, said that when the assassins arrived the drinking parlour, little did anybody anticipate that they were on a deadly mission, as they shot sporadically into the air, after shooting severally at their target to make sure that he died before they left the scene.

When our correspondent arrived the crime scene, men and officers of the Nigeria police force, from the state headquarters had already sealed off the crime and quickly evacuated the lifeless body, as nobody was allowed to take pictures, including journalists.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Andrew Enwerem, said that he was not yet aware of the incident.
