‘Technical hitches’ have been cited as the main reason why the much publicized Africa Modeling Ambassadors’ Awards (AMA Awards) failed to hold in Imo on December 2, 2016.
A short message from the office of the SA to Imo State governor on Entertainment and Public Affairs, Hon. Chukwunonye Iruno, reads; “there are some technical hitches arising from the failure or inability of the orgernizers/owners of the programme to secure the consent of most of the celebrities as planned, govt decides to withdraw its hosting of this event. Those who bought tickets from our three centers – Bongo, Ibari Ogwa and OZB Communications have been directed to go and collect their monies accordingly”

He however regretted all the inconveniences the decision will be causing Imolites and others who made it a priority to attend the event. No further statement was made on the event which was supposed to feature Miss AMA Awards 2016 Beauty Pageant and also see the honoring some brand ambassadors in Africa.

However, agitation by some top celebrities has been seen as main reason for the withdrawal of Imo State government from hosting the event and the president and founder of the brand, Mr. Roland Ogbonna Chukwu said; “the cancellation is a big shock to us. We were not contacted or consulted before that, the Imo State government is only our host and one of our partners. Due to what we had put in and to protect our image, we are likely going to take measures including legal option to ensure that Imo government pay for the damages they have caused us”.
