Imo State Chapter of Professional Disk Jockey Association of Nigeria PRODJAN on November 1, 2016 held their first state conference where they also honoured some dignitaries and establishments who have contributed to the growth of the art.

The event which took place at the Hall 2 of Imo International Conference center Owerri, had the chapter President Mr. Isaac Okoro aka DJ Timbaland describe the DJ as the life of every event, adding that without music, “this world will be a very dumb home to humanity”

He further stated that recent technological development has seen the Disc Jockeying profession being overrun by mediocrity and unprofessionalism which has given rise to unpleasant scenarios that affects the income level of both professional and unprofessional DJs.

“People have gone into the business of DJing without proper training and therefore the real etiquettes of DJing is being lost in the down line”, DJ Timberland said in his address at the event.

He then hailed some employers who have sent their DJs to training calling on those who indulge in the act of exploitation of DJs to desist from it.

DJ Timbaland then cited the lack of musical stars in Imo State as the failure of DJs in the state to promote local contents, blaming DJ’s total neglect to these contents; artistes having to meet DJs individually; poor musical productions amongst others as reasons for this.

He hailed the office of the SA to Governor Okorocha on Entertainment and Public Affairs headed by Hon. Chukwunonye Irouno for his efforts to revive entertainment in Imo State through the efforts of the governor. He further pleaded that Hon. Iruno through his office checkmate the activities of multi-national companies who hold events in Owerri without including local DJs and also having artistes on stage without paying them.

The conference also featured sensitization talks on by the Copyright Society of Nigeria; the Health and Welfare of the DJ; importance of the media to the DJ which was handled by Mr. Chinedu Hardy Nwadike and how PRODJAN will affect professionalism through training sessions.

Another highlight of the event was the award presentation to organizations and individuals who have contributed to the development of the association. Organizations honoured include Hot 99.5 FM, Zanders 105.7 FM, Titanic View Hotels, Ibari Ogwa Entertainment Village and Orange Room.

Other dignitaries at the event include the patron of the association and veteran DJ Chief Vitalis Orikaeze Ajumbe, The Imo State Chapter President of Actors Guild of Nigeria, Conac Umez, the Vice President of the Association, Dj Blaze McBede; Comedians Prince White and MC Ash who anchored event; the Red Carpet Host and Assistant Secretary of the Association, DJ Harmonix; DJ Cisquo, DJ VIckylee amongst others.
